MSC2020's 06 and 08 through 20 blocks: algebraic structures, sets equipped with operations obeying fixed laws, from a single group's symmetries to the machinery that relates one algebraic structure to another. Belongs here: algebra, group theory, ring theory, field theory, linear algebra, commutative algebra, representation theory, homological algebra, category theory and order theory. Does not belong here: number theory or algebraic geometry, each its own MSC block and its own category here despite sharing algebraic tools.
