Marcel Herzog is a group theorist associated with Tel Aviv University. The Mathematics Genealogy Project records his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1965, with a dissertation on finite groups with a subgroup containing the normalizer of each of its nonunit elements, written under Walter Feit, and lists two students at Tel Aviv University, Zvi Arad in 1974 and Arie Bialostocki in 1984. With Jochanan Schönheim he posed the Herzog-Schönheim conjecture in 1974, which asks whether a finite system of left cosets of subgroups that partitions a group can have pairwise distinct indices; the answer is conjectured to be no.
