Evolutionary Biology and Population Dynamics

This group gathers theorems that use mathematical models to describe how populations of organisms change under selection, competition, and foraging, the biological side of game theory and optimization. It covers Fisher's fundamental theorem of natural selection, an idea in population genetics about genetic variance in fitness, and the related results of evolutionary game theory and optimal foraging theory, such as the Bishop-Cannings theorem on mixed strategies in contests and the marginal value theorem on how long a forager should stay in a patch. Theorems about strategic interaction among rational agents in markets, bargaining, and voting belong with the economic, equilibrium, and social choice groups instead.
