Modern

Wolfgang Krull was a German mathematician, born on 26 August 1899 and died on 12 April 1971, who made fundamental contributions to commutative algebra, introducing concepts that are now central to the subject. He was born and went to school in Baden-Baden, attended the Universities of Freiburg, Rostock and Gottingen, and earned his doctorate at Gottingen under Alfred Loewy. He was an instructor and professor at Freiburg, spent a decade at Erlangen, and from 1939 held the chair at the University of Bonn for the rest of his life. He supervised 35 doctoral students.
