The tent map, with a parameter customarily written mu, is the piecewise linear real function that sends x to mu times the minimum of x and 1 minus x, named for the tent-like shape of its graph. For parameter values between 0 and 2 the map sends the unit interval into itself, so repeatedly applying it to a starting point produces a sequence, or recurrence, within that interval. At the parameter value mu equals 2 the tent map is a nonlinear transformation of both the bit-shift map and the r equals 4 case of the logistic map.
