Robert John Aumann is an Israeli-American mathematician and game theorist, born in Frankfurt-on-the-Main on 8 June 1930 to an orthodox Jewish family. The family emigrated to New York in 1938 because of Nazi persecution, and he studied mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he received his Ph.D. in 1955. He moved to Jerusalem in 1956 as a member of the mathematics faculty at the Hebrew University. He shared the 2005 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel for having enhanced understanding of conflict and cooperation through game-theory analysis, notably his theory of repeated games.
