Paul Dirac is famous as the creator of the complete theoretical formulation of quantum mechanics. He was born in Bristol, England on 8 August 1902 and died in Tallahassee, Florida on 20 October 1984. He introduced the delta function to physics, a mathematical device that stands for a point concentration of unit mass or charge, and the Dirac delta function is named after him. He was one of three children, grew up in Bristol, and his Swiss father taught French at a school there.
