Decimal Representation

Number Theory

A decimal representation of a non-negative real number r is its expression as a sequence of decimal digits with a single separating point, written as an integer part followed by a fractional part after the decimal point. Every non-negative real number has at least one decimal representation, and it has exactly two representations precisely when one of them ends in an infinite run of zeros and the other in an infinite run of nines; to get a one-to-one correspondence between non-negative real numbers and their decimal representations, the representations ending in an infinite run of nines are sometimes excluded by convention.
