Pythagorean Trigonometric Identity

Analysis

The Pythagorean trigonometric identity, often called simply the Pythagorean identity, expresses the Pythagorean theorem in the language of trigonometric functions. It states that for any angle theta, the square of its sine plus the square of its cosine always equals 1. Along with the formulas for the sine and cosine of a sum of two angles, it is one of the most basic relationships connecting the sine and cosine functions, and it underlies many further identities and calculations throughout trigonometry and calculus.
