Max Born was a Polish-born mathematician who worked in Cambridge and received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1954 for his work on quantum mechanics. He was born in Breslau, Germany (now Wrocław, Poland) on 11 December 1882 and died in Göttingen on 5 January 1970. The original form of the adiabatic theorem is due to Max Born and Vladimir Fock in 1928, and he helped tie the mathematics of operators to the physics of the atom.
