This group gathers the atlas's theorems about how the prime numbers are placed among the integers and how their frequency changes as numbers grow larger. It runs from Euclid's ancient proof that the primes never end and the closely related fundamental theorem of unique factorization through the prime number theorem's asymptotic law for their average density, on to results bounding the gaps between consecutive primes, the size of the largest prime factor, and computational tests for whether a given number is itself prime.

Extending Riemann's ideas, two proofs of the asymptotic law of the distribution of prime numbers were found independently by Jacques Hadamard and Charles Jean de la Vallée Poussin and appeared in the same year (1896).
