The Whitney extension theorem, a result of Hassler Whitney, is a partial converse to Taylor's theorem in mathematical analysis. It states that if A is a closed subset of a Euclidean space, then a function defined on A can be extended to the whole space in such a way that the extension has prescribed derivatives at every point of A.
