Zeeman Conjecture

Geometry

The Zeeman conjecture, due to Christopher Zeeman, asks whether, for any finite contractible two-dimensional CW complex K, the product of K with the unit interval is collapsible. The conjecture, if true, would imply both the Poincare conjecture and the Andrews-Curtis conjecture.

It is still open, though we will later see that it is partially settled by Perelman's proof of the Poincare conjecture.
