Map (Mathematics)

Logic, Foundations and Set Theory

A map or mapping is a term used synonymously with function, though different branches of mathematics attach further nuances to distinguish the two words in particular contexts. The terms are thought to originate from the process of making a geographical map, by analogy with mapping the surface of the Earth onto a flat sheet of paper.
