In mathematics, the origin of a Euclidean space is a special point, usually denoted O, used as a fixed point of reference for the geometry of the surrounding space. The choice of origin is often arbitrary, since any choice produces an equivalent description of the space, but a well chosen origin can exploit the symmetries of a particular problem to simplify calculations.
