Robert Simson was a Scottish mathematician best known for the Simson line of a triangle, even though he was not the first discoverer of it. He was born in West Kilbride, Ayrshire, on 14 October 1687 and died in Glasgow on 1 October 1768. He spent his career at the University of Glasgow and restored works of the ancient Greek geometers, and his name is on the Simson line theorem, on a proof of Cassini's identity for Fibonacci numbers, and on a statement of the external angle bisector result.
