Alfred Clebsch was a German mathematician, born in Königsberg, East Prussia (now Kaliningrad, Russia) on 19 January 1833 and dying in Göttingen on 7 November 1872, who worked on algebraic geometry and was a co-founder of Mathematische Annalen. He was shaped at the University of Königsberg by the school Carl Jacobi founded there, and he lived barely thirty-nine years. He belongs among the nineteenth-century geometers whose work on algebraic curves and invariants underlies later results, including the eigenvalue result for skew-symmetric matrices.
