Edgar Henry Brown Jr. (27 December 1926 to 22 December 2021) was an American mathematician specializing in algebraic topology, for many years a professor at Brandeis University. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, he completed a bachelor's degree in mathematics at the University of Wisconsin in 1949, a master's degree at Washington State University in 1951, and a doctorate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1954 under George W. Whitehead, with a dissertation on finite computability of the homotopy groups of finite groups.
