Edward Nelson was an American mathematician who won the Steele Prize for applying probability to quantum field theory. He wrote several classic texts on the topic and, in the latter part of his career, studied mathematical logic. He was born in Decatur, Georgia on 4 May 1932 and died in Princeton, New Jersey on 10 September 2014.
