Harald Bohr

Modern

Harald August Bohr (22 April 1887 to 22 January 1951) was a Danish mathematician and footballer who, after receiving his doctorate in 1910, became an eminent mathematician and founded the field of almost periodic functions. His brother was the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Niels Bohr, and he won a silver medal with the Danish national team at the 1908 Summer Olympics. He was born to Christian Bohr, a professor of physiology, and Ellen Adler Bohr, from a wealthy Jewish family. He enrolled at the University of Copenhagen in 1904, obtained his master's degree in 1909, and wrote a doctorate on Dirichlet series. He worked with the Cambridge mathematician G. H. Hardy and, with Johannes Mollerup, wrote an influential four-volume textbook of mathematical analysis.
