Heinrich Martin Weber

Modern

Heinrich Weber was a German mathematician whose main work was in algebra, number theory, analysis and applications of analysis to mathematical physics. He was born in Heidelberg on 5 March 1842 and died in Strasbourg on 17 May 1913. His textbook on algebra shaped how generations of students learned the subject, and his name is attached to the Kronecker-Weber theorem, which says that every abelian extension of the rational numbers lies inside a cyclotomic field. He was a prover and expositor of that theorem.
