Kenneth Jon Barwise (1942ΓÇô2000) was an American mathematician, philosopher, and logician, born in Independence, Missouri. He studied under Solomon Feferman at Stanford and held positions at Yale, the University of Wisconsin, and Indiana University. He introduced situation semantics into logic, arguing that being explicit about the context (the situation) in which a proposition is made eliminates many problems in applying logic. He directed Stanford's Center for the Study of Language and Information and co-authored the textbook Language, Proof and Logic.
