Marc-Antoine Parseval des Chenes was a French mathematician, born on 27 April 1755 and died on 16 August 1836, and is most famous for what is now known as Parseval's theorem, which showed that the Fourier transform is unitary. He was born in Rosieres-aux-Salines into an aristocratic family, and as a monarchist opposed to the French Revolution he was imprisoned in 1792. He was nominated to the French Academy of Sciences five times but never elected, and his mathematical publications were apparently only five papers, printed together in 1806.
