Michel Crouzeix

Modern

Michel Crouzeix is a mathematician in numerical analysis and the analysis of matrices and operators. The Mathematics Genealogy Project records his state doctorate, a thèse d'état, from the Université Pierre-et-Marie-Curie in Paris in 1975 under Pierre-Arnaud Raviart, classifies his work under numerical analysis, and lists eleven students, most of them at the Université de Rennes 1, including Catherine Bolley, Genevieve Raugel, Philippe Chartier, Bernard Philippe and Miloud Sadkane. In 2004 he proposed the conjecture that bears his name, which bounds the norm of a function of a matrix by a constant times the largest value of that function over the matrix's numerical range.
