Nicolaas Govert de Bruijn

Modern

Nicolaas Govert de Bruijn, known as Dick de Bruijn, was a Dutch mathematician, born on 9 July 1918 and died on 17 February 2012. He was noted for his many contributions in the fields of analysis, number theory, combinatorics and logic. Analysis studies limits and functions, number theory studies the integers, combinatorics studies finite arrangements, and logic studies formal reasoning, so his career ranged across four distinct parts of mathematics rather than a single specialty.
