Takao Fujita is a Japanese algebraic geometer. His papers in the Proceedings of the Japan Academy include On Zariski problem, published in 1979, and On semipositive line bundles, published in 1980. In 1985 he formulated the conjecture that bears his name, which concerns an ample line bundle A on a smooth projective variety of dimension n: it predicts that the canonical bundle plus t times A is generated by global sections when t is at least n plus one and is very ample when t is at least n plus two. The statement is known for surfaces in characteristic zero and remains open in higher dimensions.
