Theodor Schneider (7 May 1911 to 31 October 1988) was a German mathematician, born in Frankfurt am Main and best known for providing the proof of what is now known as the Gelfond-Schneider theorem. He studied in Frankfurt from 1929 to 1934 and solved Hilbert's seventh problem in his PhD thesis. He then became an assistant to Carl Ludwig Siegel in Göttingen, where he stayed until 1953, was a professor in Erlangen from 1953 to 1959, and then until his retirement in 1976 a professor in Freiburg, where he also served as director of the Mathematical Research Institute of Oberwolfach from 1959 to 1963. His doctoral students include H. P. Schlickewei.
