The cited article explains that it might be a statement which begins with the phrase there exist, or a universal statement whose last quantifier is existential, and that in the formal terms of symbolic logic it is a theorem with a prenex normal form involving the existential quantifier, even though in practice such theorems are usually stated in ordinary mathematical language. It also records a controversy that goes back to the early twentieth century about purely theoretical existence theorems, which show that an object exists without providing a way to construct it. Theorems whose statement takes this form are grouped under this concept.Existence TheoremConnectionsSourcesTake a Related QuizComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)Existence TheoremFilter Results11 entriesBranchAllAlgebraic Topology (3)Differential Topology (1)Functional Analysis (1)Topology (6)Topic AreaAllAlgebraic Topology (3)Fixed-Point Theorems (3)General Topology (2)Geometric and Differential Topology (2)ProvedAll1906 (1)1911 (1)1923 (1)1933 (1)1934 (1)1941 (1)1953 (1)1958 (1)Proved ByAllGeorg Cantor (1)Heinrich Tietze (1)Juliusz Schauder (1)Karol Borsuk (1)L.
