Welch-Satterthwaite equation

Probability and Statistics

The Welch-Satterthwaite equation is used to calculate an approximation of the effective degrees of freedom for a linear combination of independent sample variances, providing an estimate of pooled degrees of freedom when the underlying population variances are not assumed to be equal. This approximation allows statisticians to carry out approximate inference procedures in that setting, and its most common practical use is in Welch's t-test, a hypothesis test for comparing two sample means that does not require the assumption of equal variances. Is Kind Of Object

Equation, Concepts

Entity-backed identity for the object-kind enum value this mathematical object already carries, resolved to a mathematics concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The object-kind fact itself stays on the object unchanged.
