Michel Hénon was a French mathematician and astronomer who worked for a long time at the Nice Observatory. He was born in Paris in 1931 and died in Nice in 2013. In astronomy he is well known for his contributions to stellar dynamics, and in the late 1960s and early 1970s he made important contributions to the dynamical evolution of star clusters. In mathematics his name is attached to the Hénon map, which he introduced as a simplified model for the Poincaré section of the Lorenz system.
