Point on Real and Imaginary Axes

Every complex number can be expressed in the form a + bi, where a and b are real numbers, a is called the real part, and b is called the imaginary part, with i the imaginary unit satisfying i squared equals minus one. The impetus to study complex numbers as a topic in itself first arose in the 16th century, when Italian mathematicians found algebraic solutions for the roots of cubic and quartic polynomials.
