In mathematics, an inequality is a relation which makes a non-equal comparison between two numbers or other mathematical expressions. The cited article says it is used most often to compare two numbers on the number line by their size, and that the main types of inequality are less than and greater than, written with the signs for smaller and larger. As a form of theorem statement it asserts that one quantity is bounded above or below by another, and results of that kind, such as bounds on sums, products and integrals, are grouped under this concept rather than under a theorem that states an equality.
